In October 2026, Hypromag was selected as one of 46 new strategic projects by the European Commission, contributing to the goals set out in the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA).

In order to strengthen Europe’s resilient supply chains and capacities in extraction, processing or recycling of strategic raw materials, the European Commission has selected 46 new Strategic Projects across 16 Member States under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA).

As one of only two projects dedicated to the recycling of rare earth elements, GREENE partner HyProMag GmbH has been identified as strategically important for securing Europe’s supply of critical raw materials. The Strategic Project status is awarded to projects that strengthen EU supply security while demonstrating technical feasibility, sustainability and wider cross-border benefits.

The CRMA, which came into effect on 23 May 2024, is a key step towards strengthening Europe’s raw material supply security and supporting its sustainability, climate, and digital objectives. It identifies strategic and critical raw materials, promotes European capacities, strengthens supply chain resilience, and introduces benchmarks including for extraction, processing, and recycling.

Based in Pforzheim (Germany), the technology start-up HyProMag, specialises in recycling rare-earth permanent magnets. Using their patented HPMS technology (Hydrogen Processing of Magnetic Scrap), they reprocess rare-earth-based permanent magnets from old or ‘scrap’ material and hardware such as discarded hard drives, and processes them into magnet powders, alloys and new sintered magnets. These magnets are essential for key technologies including electric vehicles, wind turbines and industrial applications.

Being a strategic project means that HyProMag could benefit from more predictable permitting procedures or receive support in finding financial opportunities and easier access when it comes to connecting with relevant shareholder.

As a GREENE partner, HyProMag contributes this expertise in rare-earth magnet recycling to the project, supporting GREENE’s work towards more circular and resilient European permanent magnet value chains.
